Night Guards / Anti-Snoring
Bruxism occurs primarily while sleeping. However, some people catch themselves clenching during everyday tasks such as driving, working or exercising. Bruxism may be a response to stress, worn teeth or teeth that are not in proper alignment (malocclusion).
The symptoms of bruxism are:
Jaw pain, earaches and headaches
Fractured or chipped teeth or fillings
Damage to bone that surrounds teeth
Damage to the jaw joint
Tooth sensitivity as the enamel layer is worn down
One of the most effective ways to control grinding is by wearing a nightguard. There are many different types and styles of nightguards – an assessment of your grinding and clenching patterns can help determine the right guard for you.
There are two main reasons people wear night guards; bruxism (teeth grinding) or clenching.
NON-INVASIVE - minimal bulk designed for maximum tongue space
COMFORTABLE - vacuum formed thin clear acrylic splints and flexible elastic straps
ADJUSTABLE - select elastic straps from a variety of lengths and firmness
The EMA (Elastic Mandibular Advancement) custom appliance is a removable intra-oral appliance created for noninvasive treatment of snoring. The appliance is designed to both advance the mandible and open the bite, to allow for less restricted airflow during sleep. EMA devices help promote a deeper, more restful sleep by preventing snoring. The EMA does not interfere with breathing through the mouth, even in cases of congested nasal passages. The EMA has many options for advancement with 5 strap lengths and 3 different elastic tension options. Non-restricted lateral/protrusive movement and improved movements of the jaw are possible while wearing the device due to varying elastic bands.
