Complete dentures are a removable device that replaces all the teeth in your upper and/or lower jaw(s). There are two basic types of Complete dentures: Immediate dentures and Conventional dentures.

Immediate Dentures
Immediate dentures are Complete dentures that are fabricated prior to the extraction of your natural teeth and then are inserted 'immediately' following the removal of your teeth. They are usually considered a transitional denture due to their generally limited function and esthetics. They may require several post insertion adjustment and in most cases they need to be refit with temporary reline material several times. Eventually the temporary material needs to be removed and the dentures are permanently relined with the same Acrylic the rest of the denture is made of.

Conventional Dentures
Conventional or Standard Dentures are fabricated on gums that have already healed. With no teeth present there are several more steps to the measuring of your jaw relations and the types of impressions taken.
There are two styles of Conventional dentures; Standard (Non-Equilibrated) Dentures and Precision Equlibrated Dentures.
Standard (Non-Equilibrated) Dentures
Standard dentures are the more traditional, and most popular, type of dentures. With proper maintenance, standard dentures will last for several years. Even though they can be customized to fit your mouth and you can choose the shade of white you would like the teeth to be, standard dentures do not take advantage of the latest technology for fabricating dentures and tend to have greater limitations in diet and esthetics, are considered to be the most basic and most affordable of dentures.
Precision Equilibrated Dentures
Precision Dentures are customized to function in the most natural way possible. Very precise measurements of the movements of your jaw are recorded by computer and will ensure that the dentures will function as closely as possible to the natural parameters of your mouth.

KaVo ARCUS® Digma II

Clinical functional analysis is a first important step for diagnosing the need for treatment of function before carrying out restorative treatment.
​
Arcus Digma II is a device / computer system which determines with high precision the position and trajectory of the mandibular joint during opening and closing of the mouth. . The temporomandibular joint is the most complicated joint in the human body due to its three-dimensional spatial movements of rotation and translation.
​
This technology also helps in determining the exact height of the bite which has significance in the cases of large-span prostheses, dentures, and prostheses produced for implants.
What does getting new dentures involve?
The process of getting new dentures requires several appointments and can usually be completed over two to three weeks. Highly accurate impressions (molds) and measurements are taken and used to create your custom denture. A wax “try-in” appointment is necessary to ensure proper shape, colour, and fit. At the final appointment, your Denturist will precisely adjust and place the completed denture, ensuring a natural and comfortable fit.

It is normal to experience increased saliva flow, some soreness, and possible speech and chewing difficulty, however this will subside as your muscles and tissues get used to the new dentures.

You will be given care instructions for your new dentures. Proper cleaning of your new dental appliance, good oral hygiene, and regular check-ups will lengthen the life of your new dentures.
